Nasir did like doing what he was doing. He had come up some distance to get to that railway station, and was a success in his own eyes.

Once, out of frustration of not selling enough tea cups to make a profit, he tried a chant and it worked. Early in  the morning, when the passengers would be sleepy but on the verge of waking up, he’d rush into the bogey with the slogan, “Kharaab se kharaab chai, pilo ji!”

And even if people did not buy any tea from Nasir, (and a lot of them did) they’d joke about it or express astonishment with the other members of the compartment.
